Discord roles and notifications

Give players Discord roles for what they buy, post sales and staff alerts in your channels, and show your Discord server on your store.

Your store works with your Discord server in three ways. Our bot gives players the roles of what they bought. Webhooks post your sales and staff alerts in your channels. And a module shows your Discord server on your storefront. All of it is free and lives under Settings, then Discord.

Roles for purchases

Our bot, Minecraftstore.io, gives players the Discord roles of what they bought. It takes them away again when a timed product ends or an order is refunded.

Add the bot

  1. Open Settings, then Discord.
  2. Click Add bot to your server. Discord asks which server. You need the Manage Server permission there.
  3. In your Discord server settings, drag the Minecraftstore.io role above the roles it should give.
  4. Pick the roles per product, in the product form.

The bot only asks for the Manage Roles permission. Once it is added, the Discord page shows the server name with how many products give roles, how many players are linked and how many roles failed.

Why the bot's role must be high enough

Discord only lets a bot give roles that are below its own role. In the product form, a role above the bot shows Above the bot and cannot be picked. If your products already give roles that are above the bot, the Discord page warns you. Drag the Minecraftstore.io role higher in your server settings, then click Refresh.

Pick roles per product

Open a product. Under Discord roles, tick the roles the product gives. A player gets them when they link Discord. For a timed product, the roles are taken away when the period ends.

If your server has no roles yet, make one in Discord first, then come back to the product.

Players link Discord from their order page, after they pay. They click Link Discord and log in with Discord. The bot then adds them to your server if they are not in it yet, and gives the roles. The order page says their roles arrive within a minute.

Only the buyer has the order page, so nobody can claim the roles of someone else. A link counts for your store only. A player who buys in another store links again there.

A player who did not link right away can do it later from the same order page. Roles wait until they do.

Commands in Discord

The bot has two slash commands:

Command What it does
/claim Gives a linked player every role they still have from a purchase in your store. Useful when they left and joined the server again. Once per minute.
/store Posts a button to your store, visible to everyone in the channel.

When a role is taken away

A role is taken away when a timed product ends, after a full refund, or after a chargeback. It is not taken away if the player also has that role from another purchase, like a permanent rank with the same role.

When a role fails

If Discord has a short limit, the bot waits and tries again. On another error it tries up to five times, waiting longer each time. After that the role shows as failed on the order, under In Discord, with a Try again button.

Click Unlink server on the Discord page and confirm. The bot leaves the server and gives no more roles. Roles players already have stay. Remove them in Discord if you want.

Sales and staff alerts

Webhooks post messages in a Discord channel of your choice. There are two, each with its own webhook:

Channel What it posts
Sales A message for every paid order, with the player, what they bought and the amount. Made for a public channel.
Staff alerts A message when an order did not fully arrive in the game after every try, with a link to the order. Made for a staff channel.

Messages use the name, logo and colour of your store, so they read as your own.

Get a webhook URL

  1. In Discord, open the settings of the channel: the gear next to its name.
  2. Go to Integrations, then Webhooks, and click New Webhook.
  3. Click Copy Webhook URL.
  4. Paste it under Webhook URL for Sales or Staff alerts, and click Save.

Only a URL that starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/ is accepted. Once a channel shows Connected, click Send test message to check it.

Keep the URL to yourself. Anyone who has it can post in that channel. To stop posting in a channel, empty its field and save.

If you delete a webhook in Discord, we remove it from your store and the Discord page shows a warning. Add a new URL and save to start again.

On your storefront

The Discord module shows your Discord server on your store, with how many members are online and a button to join. It needs your invite link:

  1. Add your Discord invite on the Branding page.
  2. Turn on the Discord module on the Theme page.
