Minecraft server status checker

Type a server address and see it the way players do in their multiplayer list: online or not, the players, the version and the MOTD in colour. Handy to check your own server after a change, or to look at how others do it.

Check a server

The address players type in the game. We ping it from our server, so you see what someone outside your network sees.

What the check tells you

  • Online or not

Whether the server answers from outside your network, the way new players reach it.

  • Players and version

How many players are on, the maximum, and the version text the server shows.

  • Your MOTD, in colour

Exactly as the multiplayer list shows it, with a link to change it in the MOTD generator.

Questions

Why does it say my server did not answer?

The server is offline, the port is wrong, or a firewall keeps us out. Players from outside your network need the same port open. If you use a port other than 25565, type it after a colon, like play.yourserver.net:25566, or add a SRV record.

Does it work with a SRV record?

Yes. Without a port we look for the _minecraft._tcp record first, as the game does, and use 25565 when there is none.

Can I check a Bedrock server?

Not yet. This checks Java servers, and networks with Geyser through their Java address.

How current is it?

An answer is kept for a minute, so checking again right away shows the same. Wait a minute to see a change.

Why are the MOTD colours slightly different?

Servers can use any hex colour. We show the nearest of the sixteen Minecraft colours, the ones server.properties and our MOTD generator use.
